London, Gasometers and Flats

The gasometers behind Kings Cross, once derelict, home to rats and ghosts, the wind echoing in the pipes, Victorian, long since abandoned. Recently they have found life again, in the midst of modern flats, Mecano-like, rusty coloured metal and glass. The canal is near, a place to walk, remnants of old London, the way I remember it. I am struck by the stark, symmetrical beauty of the flats and the contrast with the circles of the gasometers. The work is rich in realism and detail, in contrast, with warmth and light; A great gift and souvenir of London.
