The Carpet, The Sun, The Flowers (2019)

A luxuriant carpet is draped over a bench, against the intense backdrop of a white wall. The heat is palpable. Lizards scamper, flies buzz. Bees search sweet nectar. A bowl of pink flowers, as delicate as silk. Patches of shadow, havens of shade. The carpet is the queen here, a masterpiece of painstaking work, from a distant land perhaps, a kingdom of icy mountains and baking plains. Thousands of stitches, caresses, whispers scented with sandalwood and myrrh. The painting is based partly on photography and is also given extra texture through card.
