Can you “pardon” someone who did not do anything wrong, other than be true to their nature and try to find some happiness? What a strange word! How about an apology for decades of persecution, an apology for driving us to suicide, an apology for wrecking our careers, making us criminals and this applies to me age 16-21 too btw, being in my 40s), an apology for arresting us for exchanging phone numbers, or holding hands, an apology for raiding our pubs and raiding our homes? Pardon? Seriously? How about instead of “pardoning” us, they beg us to pardon them, for Section 28 and their Victorian values, and for mocking us in film and calling us poofs and “one of those,” and for tormenting us and ridiculing us so that most of us are scarred and damaged inside, even now? An apology for depicting as miserable, lonely dregs, for closing down any form of social network available to us and then arresting vulnerable, lonely men for cottaging to get the arrest figures up? I don’t give two figs about a pardon, I want an apology.
