The Polar Bear and the Botanic Hotel, artwork by Andrew Reid Wildman

The Polar Bear and the Botanic Hotel are two popular and historical pubs on Hull’s Spring Bank. I have drank in one and peered through the windows in the other. Here, I have taken my own original photograph as inspiration and then created a painting which is vibrant and unique, rich in texture and in colour. The work has layers of thin texturing to add atmosphere. As usual in my work, the painting does not depict people, but rather focuses on the buildings, on the hot sky and on the light that emanates from the pub windows.

My exhibition at the Artlink in Hull’s Princes Avenue continues for another couple of weeks, and you can also see my work at the PAVE bar opposite, also in Princes Avenue, Hull.

  1. Thanks for following my posts.
I was reading your’About’ and had to go back over it as I initially read that you had drank in one establishment and ‘peed’ through the pub windows in the other!
